Swinton Pottery Ponds Walk - April 16th

Dearne Valley Walking Festival - Day 4 | Posted 16/4/2019

DVWGs 10th birthday walking festival reached the half way point tonight in fine style with another superb turnout for this evenings walk around the Swinton area.

Starting from Pottery Ponds we walked through Creighton Woods and footpaths over the Roman Ridge emerging in Rawmarsh.

After walking through Victoria Park and into Warren Vale, pausing to take a look at the ornate bridge.

After a short walk at the roadside we walked towards the edge of Wath Golf Club and finally into Wath Wood where we walked over the longest surviving section of the Roman Ridge and a local dog walker pointed out a medieval well to us too.

Finally we returned to Pottery Ponds to view the Waterloo Kiln the former home of Rockingham Pottery.

Well done to the 22 adults and one junior who completed the walk especially Lynne & Glyn Walker and Alison Cull who walked with DVWG for the first time today.

Afterwards some of our party adjourned to the Gate Inn, Swinton for a post walk beer, the regulars of which gave generously to our bucket collection in aid of YAA. Many thanks to all.
