Hope Valley Rivers Walk - December 22nd

Posted 5/1/2019

A party of eight people for DVWGs last walk of 2018 today, which had to be re-routed as a result of the ongoing train strikes.

Starting from Hope Station picking up the River Nor outside the village of Brough before crossing fields ascending to Shatton, roughly where the Noe flows into the River Derwent which we followed until we reached the outskirts of the village of Offerton.

After a lunch break and some great festive goodies we left the riverside and ascended Glover Bank which commanded some great views of the Hope Valley.

From here we reached the road once again descending once again into Shatton, retracing our steps to Brough.

From Brough we walked over the footpath back to Hope passing the remains of the Navio Roman Fort before walking into Hope village to the Old Hall Hotel where we enjoyed a beer at their fireside. The pubs Christmas decorations looked excellent.

From here it was a steady half a mile back to Hope Station and the end of our walk where we all parted for the last time in 2018 with Christmas wishes ringing in our ears.

7.6 miles and 1048 feet of sometimes tricky and muddy ascent today.

Well done to all who attended and merry Christmas to all of our walkers.
