St Leger Letwell Family Walk - 16th Dec

Posted 16/12/2018

A modest party of ten - six adults and four children - set off on a fresh, sunny winter's morning from the picturesque village church of St Peter's, Letwell.  Walking through the village, past its charming phone box library and bus stop notice board, pausing to see the old dovecote behind the houses, we took broad tracks and lanes to the nature reserve of Dyscarr Wood.  Emerging from here, we set off in the direction of the nearby village of Firbeck but before reaching the village, took a lane back to join our original route out of Letwell, upon which we returned to our start point.

Rotherham Council advertised the route as 3 miles, although it certainly exceeds four, and it made for a pleasant way to spend the morning in fine company.  We retired for refreshments to the splendid Black Lion pub in Firbeck before heading our separate ways.

Thanks to all who attended for your continued support of the group.  Given the pleasant surroundings and terrain, we are looking to possibly extend this route for the summer season, maybe even as far as Roche Abbey.
