Cawthorne Circular Walk - 1st Dec

Posted 2/12/2018

A soggy morning, unfortunately, awaited our party for our Christmas walk and social.  Setting off from Cannon Hall car park, we took a short stretch on road to Jowett House Farm, where we picked up a path over to Deffer Wood.  Ascending on broad woodland tracks, we emerged on Hollin House Lane, where our elevation would have, on a better day, lavished us with rolling views. Eventually, this extended road section took us Bank End and we took a footpath down to High Hoyland.  Unfortunately, this path and most of the others in our descent were at best indistinct, making navigation challenging. Caroline's mapping app on her phone helped us back onto course on a few occasions!

A slightly delayed start due to a couple of us (walk leaders included) having difficulty paying for parking, combined with a tricky navigation, meant we were running short on time to get back for our lunch booking, resulting in a re-route at the end to just make it back in time, albeit with a slightly unconventional re-entry to the grounds of Cannon Hall Farm!

The day was then saved by a fantastic feed at the White Bull restaurant, before our party went our separate ways.  Well done to the 16 hardy souls who braved this muddy walk and season's greetings to all 20 who attended the meal.
