Manners Wood & Wye Valley Walk & Bakewell Christmas Market - 25th November

Posted 25/11/2018

On a bit of a murky, misty autumn day, we convened in Bakewell for a short stroll, before taking in the Christmas Market at this charming Peak District town.  Our start was delayed, somewhat, due to the thousands of other people eager to take in this charm caused a fair bit of parking chaos!  We eventually departed the town, crossing the golf course to undertake a relentless ascent through Manners Wood.  Our decent through the woodland brought us into sight of Haddon Hall, before our route curved back towards the River Wye, which we broadly followed on paths and tracks back to Bakewell.

Here we separated to take in the town and markets and for some, the obligatory pint before heading home. 15 adults and 3 youngsters made up today's healthy attendance and made for a thoroughly enjoyable day out.  With Diane Marshall and the Bennett family in attendance, it was like a DVWG step back in time and, much as these write-ups traditionally involve a welcome to any new participants, it would be quite remiss not to remark upon the most welcome return of these familiar faces!
